Marvel representation of minorities
While it would be pretty weird and anachronistic to suddenly have a gay Captain America or a black Thor and pretend that that doesn’t fundamentally alter the identity of the character, Marvel has taken such steps with less-well-known characters. Pepper Potts was turned into an incredibly capable woman who challenges Tony Stark at every turn, a far cry from her portrayal in decades-old comics. We have a black viking in Heimdal, and a black Nick Fury (who had been a very white guy for 60 years of comics until the 2000s). For most of Falcon’s history, he’d been a decidedly C-rate character, but he’s given an equal part from the 2nd Avengers film.
