Blog Post #3-----Shortfalls for Marvel

The shortfalls for Marvel are when some of the movies didn't succeed at reaching the highest box office or budget. Some examples are the Incredible Hulk, the Punisher, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Iron-man, Spider-Man, and many more. Some of the characters that were introduced such as Spiderman and Hulk were created because of guilt and rage.  Marvel ended up hitting financial problems in the 1990s. Chris added that Marvel had also taken risks by moving and merchandising its business in order to sell its movie rights to Sony. Some of the comic books which were released also created a shortfall for Marvel as they didn't get enough money in order to sell them. Chris finally ends up admitting that books aren't as popular as they used to be, so there is an extremely small chance of them being sold out. Warehousing and merchandising costs dropped by 71% from 2000 to 2001.

Marvel representation of minorities

While it would be pretty weird and anachronistic to suddenly have a gay Captain America or a black Thor and pretend that that doesn’t fundamentally alter the identity of the character, Marvel has taken such steps with less-well-known characters. Pepper Potts was turned into an incredibly capable woman who challenges Tony Stark at every turn, a far cry from her portrayal in decades-old comics. We have a black viking in Heimdal, and a black Nick Fury (who had been a very white guy for 60 years of comics until the 2000s). For most of Falcon’s history, he’d been a decidedly C-rate character, but he’s given an equal part from the 2nd Avengers film.

Blog Post#1-----How Marvel shows/movies symbolize discrimination

Marvel movies have shown how symbolic minority discrimination is, when you consider Avengers:Infinity War and Avengers:Endgame. One notable example is when Stan Lee fought racism through Marvel comics. He addressed how when people discriminate against each other could end up leading to the end of the world. In the bullpen bulletins, the news page that appeared in front of regular monthly Marvel comic books, Stan lee describes “Racism and bigotry are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today … Sooner or later, we must learn to judge each other on our own merits.” In my view, the way marvel showed minority discrimination by portraying shows such as X-MEN and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Speaking of the lost people, Marvel has a tendency of using the death of non-white characters as an incentive to avenge so that the remaining heroes come together to defeat the evil that killed their comrade. In the movie X-Men, Darwin gets killed and then Erik ends up using his dea...
